About NISON
The Nigerian Society of Nematologist (NISON) is a non-governmental organisation established on September 15, 2011 at the University of Ibadan, Nigeria. The Society is registered with Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja. Membership of NISON which is currently more than 50 Nematologists from Nigeria and abroad including the United States of America, is voluntary and open to any plant or animal nematologist and interested organisations throughout the world. The Society publishes the Nigerian Journal of Nematology (NIJON), yearly.
Our Mission
The mission of the Society shall be “sustainable and ecologically sound nematode management”
Our Vision
The vision of the Society shall be “to strengthen nematology in Nigeria in order to conduct internationally competitive nematological research and training that will provide practical benefit for local communities to promote sustainable food security”
Our Principles
The principle of NISON is to strengthen capacity in Nematology in view of the need to develop sustainable and ecologically prudent nematode management systems that will promote better community livelihoods.
Our Objectives
The objectives of NISON are to:
- Conduct research and develop appropriate technologies in all aspect of nematology
- Enhance capacity building of Nematologists and allied scientists in the country,
- Maintain high ethical standards of Nematologist in the country
- Inspire and educate people in the principles and science of nematology.
- Create and promote awareness and optimize the benefits of nematology towards solving nematological problems of crops in Nigeria and beyond.
- Stimulate experience/knowledge sharing, training and nematology amongst scientists, researchers, students, and other stakeholders
